Nearing decision time.

I decided to move on yesterday heading for Braunston with at least one stop on the way, the weather was not very nice, it was a route I have already covered while I was passing time waiting to go down the Northampton Arm, I set off about 10 but by 1pm I decided to stop, there’s not much joy cruising in drizzle and showers especially if you don’t need to, so I pulled in at Weedon Bec on the other side of the town, as I was passing  the boat I was mooring in front of the lady on it called out to say I had a large piece of tree caught on my bow, well that was ok it was only small really but while clearing that I found a fender caught up in it as well, so a little bonus and saved me buying the replacement for one I lost earlier in the year.

This morning the weather was again showery, I decided a little trip down the weed hatch was probably a good idea after all the reeds on the Northampton Arm (I meant to do it yesterday and forgot), so I had a delve and found just weeds, lots of them but probably not causing too much of a problem, anyway they were soon shifted and for now I have a nice clear prop. The next little job was to top up the greaser for the stern gland, this is a permanently fixed grease gun that injects grease into the stern gland (where the propeller shaft enters the boat) to prevent water leaking in to the boat (never a good idea), you tighten it a little which squeezes the grease into the gland sealing it, after every cruise.

The sun started to shine so I thought I’d complete the move to my first intended stop which was at Whilton Marina (I needed some bits from the Chandlery), and around 11am I got going again.
I passed this boat with a 3 wheeled motorbike on it
sadly covered up but I could see it was a Yamaha, later today the boat passed me with the bike now uncovered and a lady sitting astride it, as if riding it, while taking in the sun, sadly no camera to hand but she looked quite comfortable, I have no idea how he would get the bike off as there was no sign of any ramp but presumably he had a method unless it was just on there for decoration!

I moored up after the short hop about 12:30 just before the Buckby flight of locks. I then walked up to the chandlers and purchased........drumroll please..... 2metres of both red and black 10mm cable to replace the ‘temporary’ cabling from switch to fridge, after looking in many different places I had finally found a stockist!!!

I also bought A Nicholson’s guide book (no. 3) for the next part of whatever route I decide on (hence the title of this post) I thought I would see if it was better or worse than the Pearson’s companions. Back on the boat and I soon had the fridge finally finished.

Tonights mooring

It is not a wonderful spot, no TV but that’s not an issue, to my right is the M1 and the constant drone of vehicles and to my left is the main railway line with the intercity trains breaking up the monotonous noise from the motorway, how lovely, but I needed to get some bits and tomorrow I will take a walk around and revisit the chandlers (you have to, there are such wonderful things in there) so I probably will stay until Friday despite it all.
