Walk around and then head back

Yesterday I did my walk around the village of Weedon Bec

It is a lovely little village unfortunately the locals are having to fight a development in New Street and judging by the signs I saw they are very much against it.

My mooring was right by the rear of St Peters Church and just a short walk into the village where there was a One-Stop store, Post office, general store selling fresh local produce and of course the Pub.
I walked a circular route around to the former Military depot where an arm used to lead off the main canal and was intended to protect George III  from Napoleon Bonaparte and had a Royal Pavillion and barracks but was not needed as he never got this far, the port cullis and part of the original arm is still there.
Thank you to the security guard who allowed me to enter and take this picture
Today I set off at 9:15 to wind (turn around) and head back to the Northampton Arm, it was 3miles to the winding point at Wilton Marina and then 3miles back passing my original mooring about 11:30

I stopped for a cuppa and a bite to eat in open countryside, no-one in sight for miles, just fields

By now it was mad dogs and Englishman weather, HOT, after going below to make tea my skin began leaking, and I contemplated staying put but I really wanted to get back to Gayton Junction as the forecast tomorrow is thunderstorms, so I set off again.

This old fella had the right idea with the beer but not sure about his attire in this heat, he wasn’t happy, he never even looked up J

I arrived at my intended destination about 2:45 and collapsed into a bottle or two of cool beer, it had been a lovely lock free cruise and although hot it was wonderful.
I am staying here tomorrow.

Total Today:  14miles
